Miss Ryder

Spring 2017

Those eagle-eyed amongst you may have spotted a small wooden structure against the building of our Nursery. This is our new “Outdoor Kitchen” for the children to explore. We’ll be promoting so many of the areas of learning through this resource, from Physical Development using the one-handed tools, as well as Expressive Arts, as I’m sure we will see the children take on their own little characters! I can’t wait to see the way the children lead the play in this area, and we will be exploring growing herbs and ingredients for culinary experiments!

Whereas many of these kitchens use mud for mixing, we will be using sand as the base, along with water and other enhancements to promote the children’s creativity. We are asking for some help from home, to fill a gap in resources. We need to acquire some basic outdoor crockery. We are avoiding using plastic, so that it doesn’t become cracked, and we’re trying to accumulate richer, more exciting resources. We are looking for enamel or metal plates and dishes, as well as baking trays, things you may be hoarding in cupboards or lofts, from times when camping when a little more popularly, in little with the last few (very) wet summers! If there is anything you think you could donate, it would be greatly received!

World Book Day

I’d like to say a big thank-you for all of the efforts made for our World Book Day/s. I know that for some, the option to have 3 days may have made getting dressed in the morning a little more frantic, but I thought it would have been a shame for anyone to have missed out due to sessions. I think it is safe to say all of the children looked fantastic, and I’d like to thank you all for your support and understanding.

Your Child’s Progress

Before the end of this term, I’ll be looking to send out some Learning Journeys, documenting some of the adventures that the children had in the Autumn term before Christmas. In there, you’ll find a form which I would be grateful to see filled in, just giving me an idea of some of your child’s interests and learning at home. I am looking into possible ways of sending digital observations straight to you to view, in line with the new tracking system that we use. As soon as I know more about this, I will share the information with you.
